Those that work and get paid to do what they do get looked at in a totally different way than stay at home parents. Why is this? if someone is a workaholic people say wow they are really devoted to their occupation. but for someone such as myself who works 24/7 taking care of my family they say ...oh how sad ...she has nothing for herself... and think of me as a couch potato that eats bon bon all day. Taking care of multiple children and keeping the house in order is one hell of a job, which i might add i DO NOT get paid for. Why do people look down at stay at home parents and what they do?

Because we are all programmed to be automatons in this b.s. economy we call life. THIS is not living! Take solace in your happiness. I envy you.

I have the utmost respect for stay at home parents and think it's one of the most important jobs that anyone can do. It sucks that you don't get paid for it but that's just the way the world works. People who don't respect a stay at home parent are ridiculously behind the times. At least you can take pride in the work you do and know that what you do does make a difference in the world through shaping the life of a child. You should be very proud of yourself!

We live in a society of profit and production. If a company hires an employee with no previous experience or proper training, that company wastes its time and money. If that company is a daycare service or looking for experienced parents, then at-home parents would probably be more considered than anyone else? Unless they would only consider some PhD in education or what not! A company is not there to give a chance to every single human looking to make a living in the corporate world. A company wants an employee who will boost profits, bring in new business and taking it to the next level. Not all company acknowledges that their employees are human beings with ambitions and social life. However, MLM and online business praise on that niche market. That's why a lot of work-at-home jobs/opportunities target the stay-at-home parent or the student.

Thank you for the clarification. From where I stand, I don't think I'm off topic. Like I said, recruiters/workers/managers/employees won't consider stay-at-home parents as a work experience nor a job because of the reason stated in my previous post. And I do agree that it is disrespectful. I'm not trying to justify them. Just trying to see from their point of views! I'm a stay-at-home wife and an entrepreneur. Sorry if I shared more my corporate side point of view rather than the parent's view!

I don't know..? I agree with you though, it's very tough to be a stay-at-home mom. We don't sit around like they think we do. There's cooking, ironing, the kids soccer, football, piano, dance, singing, keeping the husband happy, the house clean, keeping yourself presentable and in shape. Girl we've got it tough, but i wouldn't want it any other way. I could care less what the world thinks about me staying at home. I'm happy and I love being with my kids. Merry Christmas people!

Is there an available job that has no pay, no health benefits, no lunch break and definitely no pension plan? In fact, what if this job was 24/7, and you could never have a vacation? There would be a lot of openings, but no one would take the position. In fact, if this was the only job a company offered, it looks like they would be out of business faster then the time it takes to say "stay-at-home mom." Oh wait, of course! There is a job out there that fills these qualifications exactly: the stay-at-home mom (or dad) who takes care of the children.
Well, a job like this, with no time off and no pay, sounds like charity work. In fact, people respect this job for all the hard work and effort it requires, right? Wrong.
In fact, being a stay-at-home mom is one of the least respected jobs in the workforce today. Why? Since more and more women are entering the corporate world, there are fewer stay-at-home moms than ever before. Because things are so expensive, it is seen as better to have two paychecks coming in the household than just one.
